“A clean guitar is a happy guitar.” – some wise man or other.
“You were willing to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars to acquire an excellent acoustic guitar. Why wouldn’t you spend another $20 and a few minutes each month to make sure that guitar remains in excellent condition?” – Maury of Maury’s Music.
In this episode of Martins & More, Maury leads the discussion on acoustic guitar home maintenance or as C. F. Martin & Co. put it, the care and feeding of your precious musical instrument. And Spoon adds valuable advice and tales of the right and wrong ways people treat their guitars.
Many people never even think about cleaning their guitar, let alone treating their fingerboard, or regularly polishing the finish on the guitars they spent so much time and money buying and playing. But it is not just a matter of making a guitar look nice, but protecting it from the substances that can glom onto the finish or raw wood that make up a finely crafted Acoustic guitar.
There are a variety of products available for such purposes that are inexpensive and easy to use, and well worth the time and effort. Maury and Spoon mention a variety of such products, including some that weren’t even intended for musical instruments by their manufacturers, but have a proven track record when it comes to cleaning or polishing a world-class acoustic guitar.
