Sapele is a mahogany species from Central Africa. It looks and sounds similar to tropical American mahogany, while having a slightly brighter, drier fundamental tone, supported by translucent overtones. When matched with a Sitka spruce top, sapele Martins have a pretty, uncomplicated voice. When matched to a sapele top, the results are less bright and projecting, while gaining added warmth and richer complexity.
