Just like the original Hawaiian ukuleles, the S1K Uke is made from beautiful koa, a wood that grows only in the Hawaiian Islands. Taping the koa soundboard of this Style 1 soprano uke puts off a ring of pure tone and sustained overtones. But you will want to strum it to get the full effect, and then you’ll not want to stop. An ultra-thin, hand-rubbed finish allows the body to maximize resonance. The Morado fingerboard and bridge looks lovely in contrast with all that koa. In the tradition of Martin ukes that date back to 1915, the S1K Uke offers pure Martin tone at a very good price for genuine koa uke.
Martin has been making soprano ukuleles since 1915, and they were fashioned after the first ukuleles that originated in Hawaii back in the 1880s. The smallest-sized ukulele Martin makes, this soprano-sized model features a top, back, and sides that are crafted of koa, a wood native to Hawaii and a favorite of island players. The entire body includes a hand-rubbed, ultra-thin finish. The S1K Uke is a beautiful example of why Martin is still the name in superior quality ukuleles. Also available in Mahogany.
